CASCO — With an eye toward next year, the Casco Board of Selectmen set the date for the Special Town Meeting, which puts public hearings during the month of December.

There are some ordinance amendments that had not been completed in time to be included at the annual town meeting in June.

There are some items that need to be addressed before annual town meeting in June 2022.

Traditionally, the Town of Casco holds its Special Town Meeting in January for those can’t wait warrant articles as well as the ones that weren’t ready.

The selectmen set the date of Jan. 18 for Casco’s Special Town Meeting. That is a Tuesday.

Selectman Scott Avery had suggested getting the date on the calendar and he

Recommended the third week in January.

“It’s the third week of January. It gives us time to go through what we have and prepare a warrant-article draft for the meeting,” Avery said.

Chair Mary-Vienessa Fernandes asked how many days in advance of special town a public hearing was required to be held.

Casco Town Manager Anthony “Tony” Ward  said 60 days.

Public hearings would be held Dec. 14 for items appearing on the warrant.

One items that will be making an appearance is Shoreland Zone changes.

“This is about having our code up to state law,” Ward said. “Other towns have been updating shoreland zoning since 2017. This is just for consistency purposes. It is a rewrite to comply with state law.”
