Bummer…fireworks display canceled

Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Bridgton is regretfully cancelling the firework celebration scheduled Labor Day Weekend at Stevens Brook Elementary School at dusk on Sept. 5.

“We realize the importance of this event for our community and local businesses, however the ability to host large group social gatherings safely and adhere to the State of Maine COVID-19 Prevention Checklist is simply not feasible,” Rec Director Gary Colello announced. “After reviewing the prevention checklist for large gatherings, consulting multiple town departments and management the Recreation Department, the department charged with organizing the event and annual fireworks display, does not have the resources, staffing, or funding to meet the requirements of the checklist for a successful safe event for its community and visitors.”

Colello hopes to have a “great display” in 2021 and hope to return to more normalcy in the near future.

“We certainty dislike this notice too!” he noted. “Be safe, eat healthy, drink water, wash your hands and stay active.”
