Bruce R. Marshall

Bruce Marshall

Bruce Robert Marshall, 72, of West Greenwich, R.I., died peace- fully at home on April 30, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Bruce was born on June 15, 1951, in Central Falls, R.I., to George and Marjorie Marshall. He grew up in Cumberland, R.I. An all-star football and baseball player, he graduated from Cumberland High School in 1969. He continued his education at Providence College, earning his bachelor’s degree in history and two master’s degrees in Special Education and Guidance Counseling.

Bruce married Barbara Vivian, on June 22, 1974, and they raised their two children, Brett and Caitlin, in Jamestown and Lincoln. Bruce spent his 32 year career in the Cumberland School District as a middle school History teacher, a Special Education teacher and a Guidance Counselor. He also coached Cumberland High School’s Freshman baseball team.

After retiring, he and Barbara moved to Bridgton. He enjoyed working at Naples Golf and Country Club, reading, painting, and creating beautiful stained-glass artwork. But Bruce’s most meaningful moments were spent with his family, cherishing holiday gatherings and family reunions, and fully embracing his role as a grandfather.

Bruce was known for his selflessness, always putting his concern for others before himself. He was generous with his love and was incredibly loved. We will miss him so much.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Barbara; his son, Brett Marshall and his wife, Natasha, of Adelaide, Australia; his daughter, Caitlin Marshall Walusiak, of Glocester, R.I.; his grandchildren Noa Mae Marshall and Sienna, Reese, and Grant Walusiak; his brother Alan Marshall and his wife, Sue; his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Cindy Marshall, Doug Vivian and Susan Claggett, John and Sue Vivian, Ken and Kathryn Vivian; his nieces and nephews, Bill, Kirby, and Lindsey Marshall, Chris and Ryan Jones, Cody Marshall, Kelsey and Michaela Vivian, and Lea, Sara, and Matthew Vivian.

He was predeceased by his parents, his father- and mother-in-law, Bob and Norma Vivian, and his brother, Stephen Marshall.

Memorial services will be private.
