Alan B. Griffin
CASCO — Alan Barclay Griffin, 84, passed away on June 28, 2022.
Alan was born in Portland, Maine on Nov. 10, 1937, to Terena Elizabeth Dyer Griffin and Dwinal Cole Griffin. He was raised on Cliff Island, where he attended the Island
School, worked as a lobsterman, played baseball, and rowed all over Casco Bay with his siblings, cousins, and friends. The family moved inland to Sebago, Maine for a short
time before returning to the island. While living in Sebago, Alan met “the prettiest girl with a blonde ponytail he had ever seen,” Lucille Dingley Morton, of Casco who would become his wife.
Alan joined the Marines in 1955. After returning home, he went to Arizona to play AAA Baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers. Alan continued to play baseball on local leagues for years. He was a commercial lobsterman until his retirement in 1999.
Alan was a volunteer member of the Casco Fire and Rescue Departments. He was one of the first EMTs in Casco.
He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Lucille Dingley Morton Griffin.
Alan leaves behind, his brother, Theodore Louis Griffin; his son, Keith Alan Griffin; his daughters, Karen Elizabeth Griffin, Laurie Alane Griffin Polland and son-in-law G. Michael Polland, Pamela Jean Griffin, and Allison Leigh Griffin; as well as his granddaughters Nicole Alane Griffin Polland and Taylor Elizabeth Griffin Polland.
Committal services at the Murch Cemetery in South Casco will be private.
