In recognition of her strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Emily is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

School Activities/Sports: Soccer and softball

Q. Why did you choose softball? EB. I’ve played for multiple years and thoroughly enjoy the sport. You are able to push yourself individually, but also be part of a team.

Q. What do you hope to accomplish this season? EB. I would love to be able to improve our record from last season, and prove to the league that we are here to stay.

Q. What do you enjoy the most? EB. I enjoy the feel of a great hit, the moment when you connect the bat to the ball, and you can feel it just fly.

Q. What do you like the least? EB. The long rides. When we travel long distances, it takes a toll on all of us.

Q. What makes you successful? EB. The passion to make my team proud. I don’t want to let my fellow teammates down when they are counting on me.

Q. What would your dream moment be? EB. Improving as a team. I would love to see our team work as a whole unit. The moment when we all work together fluidly — that will mean the most to me.

Q. What has the sport taught you? EB. To constantly work on improving yourself. You are as good as your last game. You can always work at making yourself better.

Q. Who has inspired you? EB. My grandfather, Donald Erickson, is a constant inspiration. He was an amazing baseball player, and always helps me with my technique. He challenges me to be a better player, and also a better person.
