Bradley W. Smith Sr.

1937 – 2025

Bradley Smith Sr.

Bradley W. Smith Sr., of Center Lovell, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2025. Brad was able to write his last chapter as he saw fit, with his dog, Marley, by his side.

Brad was raised in Short Hills, N.J., and through his parents, C. Wallace and Katherine, was afforded many wonderful experiences as well as a quality education. He obtained a degree from NYU’s Stern School of Business and began his career in finance. Brad enjoyed a long career at various firms and
with different roles in New York City and in Maine. In many cases, he considered his clients as friends and family. His handshake and word were his bond.

Friendship was important to Brad and was seen by his life-long close friendship with individuals dating back to his days in college and even kindergarten. Brad valued integrity, loyalty and honesty, sought out and admired those qualities in others, and tried to instill those values in his sons. Brad loved animals (especially dogs), enjoyed single malt scotch. He insisted on being clean shaven every day, always wore a suit and tie to the office and other formal occasions, collared shirts regularly, and blue jeans only for yard work. Brad believed in holding the door for others, shaking hands, looking someone in the eye, and respectful language to others (unless warranted otherwise). His sons are still learning when it comes to some of these items.

First and foremost, the most important aspect in Brad’s life was always family.

Brad is survived by his two sons, Bradley Smith Jr. (Leigh) and Malcolm Smith, their spouses Leah and Nicole, and two granddaughters, Alexandra and Brynleigh. The family feels Brad would also want to note that although his marriage to Margaret Smith (Marnie) had an early conclusion, the two of them always united to provide their sons with the best possible environment with which to grow. Brad always considered Marnie as both family and a trusted friend. Finally, Marley, the latest in a long line of loving canine pets that were fortunate enough to have Brad as an owner/companion, has found a wonderful home with Malcolm’s family.

Maine and particularly Oxford County have always held a special place in Brad’s heart, reaching back to summer family vacations in the town of Norway and Center Lovell. During the latter part of his life, Brad came to consider Severance Lodge Club in Center Lovell his home. He always appreciated the timeless quality of the area and hoped it would maintain the traditional style and values that made it unique.

In lieu of flowers, the Smith family kindly ask that donations be made to the Kezar Lake Watershed Association, the Lovell Fire Department, and/or the Lovell Historical Society in his memory.
