Player of the Week Katherine O’Connor
Junior defender Katherine O’Connor constantly gives 110% at both practices and games.
“She has made great improvements this season, is a great listener, very coachable and she continues to strive to be the best player she can be,” Lake Region varsity field hockey Coach Lucy Fowler said. “She has proven to be one of our strongest defenders and works hard to keep the ball out of the circle. She is a leader in balancing her academics with her athletics.”
In recognition of her strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Katherine is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

What are three key elements to be successful in your sport? Patience, persistence, and giving 100% on the field.
What is your goal(s) this season, and how do you reach them? My goal this season is to have our team make it to preliminaries or playoffs. I think we can do this by communicating well with each other and working hard during practices and games.
What is the most difficult aspect of your sport? The mentality is definitely the most difficult aspect of the sport. Keeping your spirits up and staying positive after a loss or feeling like you didn’t live up to your expectations is definitely a challenge.
Finish this line, “It’s been a good sports day if….” everyone on the team is in a good mood and you feel that you played well
How has sports helped in your development as a person? Sports have helped me develop a work ethic, learn to overcome challenges, and become more involved in the community.
What lesson have you learned from a coach or teammate that you will long remember? I will always remember Coach Webb’s intensity and passion for field hockey that she passed down to all the players on her team.
