CASCO — Malcolm H. Thurlow, 63, of Casco, passed away at CMMC on Tuesday, January 23, surrounded by family.

Micky was born on March 15, 1960. He was the youngest child of Herbert and Eva Thurlow. He graduated from Lake Region High School in 1978. He went to SMCC after high school, where he graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Culinary Arts.

Micky was predeceased by his parents Herbert and Eva Thurlow, and his brother Michael Thurlow.

Throughout his life, he worked many places as a cook and also as a carpenter. His real passion in life was for adventure and the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting for many years and killed a few deer with vehicles and motorcycles, but never had the opportunity to shoot one while in the woods. He enjoyed camping whether it was in his younger days during trips, The Grateful Dead concerts or in his later years with his grandchildren. But what he really enjoyed the most were adrenaline-filled activities. In the summer, you would typically find him on his motorcycle, going for rides on the back roads with great views as he took it all in. He would also make his way up north where he went white water rafting at least twice a month. In the winter time, you could find him on the trails riding snowmobiles or his favorite winter activity which was skiing. You could find him at Sunday River most of the time or once a week at Shawnee Peak when he volunteered with the ski program to help spread his love of skiing.

Micky was a proud grandpa to his three beautiful grandchildren. He was on the wrestling mat cheering on Colson and Deagan from the sidelines during their tournaments. If he was unable to make it, he was the first one to ask for wrestling videos and call them directly after to ask how they did. He loved taking them to sporting events and simply spending time with them. Micky was also excited to have a new granddaughter, Ella. The last time he spent with her, she was sitting on his lap, looking up at him and smiling nonstop. I think they would all agree that he was the best grandpa.

Micky had a big heart and wore his emotions on his sleeve. He would do anything he could for a friend, and truly cared about people more than they knew. At the same time, if he was mad at someone there was absolutely no hiding it. He had this poem tattooed on his back and he was a true friend to all.

Few friends are true True friends are few
But the few true friends Are through and through

Micky is survived by his son Evan Thurlow and his wife Jennifer, his sister Patsy Jordan Long and her husband Alan, sister-in-law Vicky Thurlow, his grandchildren Colson, Deagan, and Ella Thurlow, and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitation will be from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024, at the Hall Funeral Home in Casco, and the celebration of Micky’s life will continue at the Naples American Legion Hall beginning at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking to make donations in Micky’s memory to the Pleasant Mountain Ski Club, 38 Colony Lane, Naples, ME 04055.
