Hancock Lumber Player of the Week: Sethlen Lester
Sethlen Lester has been “an incredible leader for us all season,” says Lake Region varsity football Head Coach Mike Meehan.
“He has an incredible work ethic. His ability to be vocally positive with his teammates along with his outstanding athletic ability, is an undeniable asset for our football program,” the coach added. “We are extremely excited that we get him back next year — Sethlen is only a junior. Sethlen just grinds, and we can call his number to help with any position on the field.”
He caught two TD passes and averaged 8.5 yards per catch.
In recognition of his strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Sethlen is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

Q. What do you find most challenging about football? The most challenging thing I would say there is about football is the adversity you might face during games. Being able to be positive and keep your head up during times like that isn’t always easy in football because of the physicality of the sport.
Q. What goal did you set for yourself this season, and what will it take to reach that goal? The goal I set for myself this season was to put everything out there. Play the game 100 percent and not give up. Keep my teammates positive and motivated. It wasn’t the easiest goal at times, but digging deep and finding the enjoyment in what I was doing because I love football made it better.
Q. What is your favorite sports memory and/or achievement? My favorite sports memory would have to be from my freshman year during the home opener for football against OOB (Old Orchard Beach). I scored three times and had an interception and despite losing the game, after the game I wasn’t upset because I was proud with how I played and how our team fought to stay in the game. If someone was to ask me if I thought I was going to do that well before the game, I would’ve said ‘no.’ I never thought I could do something like that.
Q. How has sports made you a better person? Playing sports has taught me many life lessons and kept me on a straight path my whole life. I feel like without sports I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
Q. Name a teammate or coach you admire and explain why? A teammate I admire would be Colby Chadwick. He’s graduated already and playing college football now. I played with him for two years. He was the prime example of what a student-athlete should be. He’s a good leader, good teammate, and good friend just in general. He kept me in line and made sure I was good academically because he saw the potential I had on the football field. I can’t thank him enough for that.
