Raymond Eugene Leavitt Sr. passed away on Sept. 28 at the V.A. Home in So. Paris, of declining health four days after his 94th
birthday, with his extended family by his side.

He was born to the late Evelyn L. (Gammon) and George E. Leavitt Sr. on Sept. 25, 1929, in Naples. He grew up in Bridgton and graduated from Bridgton High School in 1949. He was drafted in
the U.S. Army and served in Korea from Feb. 1951 to Feb. 1953.

After his discharge from the Army, he went to work for the Clark Estate, now Darneille Estate on Bridgton Highlands as a chauffeur and caretaker for 55 years as well as full-time as a walking mailman for the U.S. Post Office in Bridgton for 25 years. Henry Shorey was the postmaster, his boss!

After retiring from the post office, he and his wife spent 25 years in the winter in Lakeland, Fla.

Ray is survived by his wife of 70 years, Phebe Alice (Perreault) Leavitt; son Raymond Eugene Leavitt Jr., and wife Elizabeth (Norton); daughter Rebecca Alice (Leavitt) and husband Dr. Scott Burke, plus seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter, plus several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and six siblings: George Jr., Ernest, Cyril, Ralph, Gwen Cadman and Nellie Kilgore.

There will be a Masonic funeral service at the Masonic Hall on Harrison Road, Bridgton, on Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. Refreshments after by the Eastern Star. Burial after the service will be at the cemetery on Kansas Road, Bridgton. Ray was also a strong believer in the Methodist Church.

Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 8 Elm Street, Bridgton.
