Kiosk helps educate public about water protection

CASCO — The Crescent Lake Watershed Association (CLWA) has erected a kiosk at the Casco public beacharea on Crescent Lake in Casco. The kiosk’s purpose is to educate beach visitors about the lake, the ongoing efforts to maintain the lake’s health, and enlist their help in preserving and protecting the lake, its aquatic habitats, and wildlife.

“With everyone’s help, we can continue to enjoy what this beautiful, clear lake offers today and in future generations,” CLWA said.

The CLWA is an all-volunteer, non-\profit organization formed in 2007 after the April Patriot’s Day storm by a group of local residents concerned about protecting the shoreline and the water quality of the lake from sand, silt, and phosphorus deposits, pollutants from runoffs, and invasive plants. The purpose of the CLWA is to promote the protection and enhancement of the water quality of Crescent Lake, as well as to preserve its ecological, economic, recreational, and aesthetic value.

The CLWA works closely with other regional and state organizations that share this purpose, and coordinates its activities in order to minimize duplication of efforts.
