Public hearing scheduled for Sweden solar ordinance
SWEDEN — The Sweden Planning Board has been working on a draft for a town solar ordinance, which it plans to present at an upcoming public hearing on Monday, May 23, at 6:30 p.m. in the Town Meeting House, 147 Bridgton Rd. (Route 93).
A moratorium on solar projects was imposed last year so the Planning Board could work on developing an ordinance concerning this very important issue. The results in the form of a proposed ordinance are now ready for public comment and discussion.
The Board will take questions at the public hearing. If, based on input from the public, the Planning Board feels that significant changes need to be made to the proposed ordinance, it can choose to make those changes and hold a second public hearing. If only minor edits are needed, then the Board may make those edits and the ordinance would be put forth for the town to vote on. The final draft of the ordinance will be posted, along with a notice for a Special Town Meeting and vote, which is expected to take place on Saturday, June 25.
The draft of the proposed ordinance draft can be viewed at http://swedenmaine.org/public-hearing-notice/ or a copy may be obtained at the Sweden Town Office, open on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. The public is welcome to attend the public hearing.
Written comments should be sent prior to the attention of Bill Graham, Planning Board Chairman, at 147 Bridgton Rd., Sweden, ME 04040.
