NAPLES — Changes in his family life was the main reason that Bob Caron II decided not to run for selectmen again — after nine years on the board.

“I’ve always said that you shouldn’t be a selectman if you cannot attend meetings,” he said. “I’ve only missed five meetings in the past three years.”

But, the life changes in his children’s lives prompted him to free up his time. Therefore, he decided not to take out nomination papers when his term expired this spring.

His eldest son is finishing college this year and his daughter, who is senior at Lake Region High School, has been accepted at the Maine Maritime Academy.

In 2013, Caron ran for the seat that had been held by his father Bob Caron, Sr.

Residents gave him a vote of confidence, selecting him as their selectmen in 2013, and in two more elections in 2016 and 2019.

This year, Bob Caron II decided not to run for a fourth term.

“I’m not saying that I’m never going to run again,” he said.

He added that taking a break was the best thing he could do for his constituents. He felt he could not give the time commitment to being on the board at this point in time.
