CASCO — John O. Gillis, 49, of Casco, died unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 17, 2022, at his home in Casco.

He was born on Mar. 17, 1972, in Bangor, a son of Hartley and Martha (Morse) Gillis.

John graduated from Bonney Eagle High School and worked for Krisway in South Portland for 19 years until poor health forced him to leave in 2019.

John made his home in Casco with his wife, Valerie (Lorrain) Gillis, whom he married on the front lawn on May 21, 1999.

He loved the outdoors particularly hunting and fishing with friends.

John is survived by his wife, Val of Casco; his mother, Martha Gillis of Casco; children, Gwen Hood and her husband, Jared of Buxton, Kaleb Morton of Naples, and Dustin Viger of Windham; grandchildren, Lacey, Jayden, Jaxon, Lucas, Baleigh, Emily, Elizabeth, and Norman; siblings, Joe, Danny, Dennis, Gary, and Rickie Gillis, and Lindie Gallant.

He was predeceased by his father and a grandson, Jase.

A celebration of John’s life will be celebrated in the spring with the time and date to be announced. Cremation arrangements are in the care of Hall Funeral Home in Casco where tributes may be shared at www.hallfuneralhome.net.
