Player of the Week — Michael Ross

Michael Ross

Michael Ross is the perfect example of that phenomenal football player you wished that you had for “one more year,” Lake Region varsity Head Coach Mike Meehan said.

“On one hand, you have a born leader that our entire team of players look up to. On another, you have an incredible athlete who doesn’t have a ‘slow down’ or ‘just wrap,’ or ‘half speed’ button. Mikey is hands down the toughest football player I’ve ever had the pleasure of coaching,” Coach Meehan said. “Our guys know when Mikey steps foot onto that practice or game field, it’s time to strap it up, throw the mouthpiece in, and punch in. There is no question in my mind that Mikey could easily play football at the next level, as he immediately makes any football program better.”

On both sides of the ball, Michael Ross has made a big impact for the Laker football team. Through four games, he has 38 carries for 294 yards (a long of 75 yards) and four touchdowns. He has 4 catches for 85 yards. Defensively, Michael has 23 solo tackles and 23 assists.

“This kid is really special to me. While athletically, Mikey is likely one of the toughest, most athletically gifted players that Lake Region has produced in recent years. I would argue that he is one of the most selfless players to ever step foot on Kilborn Field. Mr. Ross’ overall reputation as a player and teammate will be one that is echoed through our halls, talked about in the locker rooms, and used as an example on the football field, long after he is gone. At least, for as long as I am at the helm of this program,” Coach Meehan said. “It chokes me up to think he won’t be by our staff’s side (and my side) next year, because his amazing personality and good heartedness goes hand in hand with who he is for us on the football field.”

In recognition of his strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Michael is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.
