Robert E. Vivian , 94

Robert Edmund Vivian, 94, died peacefully at home on Saturday, July 24, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born on Feb. 24, 1927, in West Haven, Conn., to Edmund and Florence Vivian. He attended Pawtucket West High School in Rhode Island, where he met the love of his life, Norma May Duckworth. Bob served in the Navy as a mine sweeper from 1944 to 1946. After returning home from the war, he continued his education at Brown University, graduating with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1950.
Bob and Norma married on June 10, 1950, one week after his Brown graduation.
He spent his 39-year career at Allendale Insurance, formerly the Fireman’s Mutual Insurance Company, retiring in 1989 as their chief underwriter.
Bob faithfully served the church his entire life, and was a loyal communicant of Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Cumberland, R.I., and St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bridgton. He enjoyed singing in the choir, puzzles, and ice cream, but his most meaningful moments were spent with his family, planning annual reunions and holiday gatherings and attending his grandchildren’s many activities. He was generous and genuine, loving and incredibly loved. We will miss him so much.
Bob is survived by his wife of 71 years, Norma; his children and their spouses, Barbara Vivian Marshall and Bruce Marshall; Doug Vivian; John and Susan Vivian; and Ken and Kathryn Vivian; his grandchildren, Brett and Natasha Marshall, and Caitlin Marshall Walusiak and Ed Walusiak; Kelsey and Michaela Vivian; Lea, Sara and Matthew Vivian; his great-grandchildren, Sienna, Reese and Grant Walusiak; his brothers, Richard and John Vivian; his sister-in-law, Dawn Vivian, and his nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob’s memory to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 42 Sweden Road, Bridgton, ME 04009 or The Episcopal Conference Center, 872 Reservoir Road, Pascoag, RI 02859.
