What do you consider as traits that make someone a good citizen? To be a good citizen one has to have willingness to help others. Sometimes, you need to step away from yourself to help others. Being prevalent in your community on a small scale helps so much. You don’t always have to make the big sacrifices to help.

Who has inspired you to be a good citizen? My mom has always worked hard to show me and my siblings that there is always something to do. As the former president of the PTC in Sebago and the head of our towns SYAA program, there is always much to do. My mom also took a role in my town’s Girl Scout unit. She has always worked so hard to give back to the community. I value the opportunities that have been raised from this. My mom inspires me every single day with her hard work and perseverance.

What have you done to make the school community a better place? By being a positive person in my school community. I shine most in my sport, volleyball. I try to be a good teammate for my peers to turn to. I work hard to make sure everybody can get to practice and has knee pads. It’s the little things that help the most. If I can be the person who gives somebody a ride I am content.

Why is volunteerism important? Volunteering is so important. Between volunteering in my own community, I have also volunteered for a fresh air camp called The Main Idea. At this camp, girls from tough areas in cities such as New York and Boston come up to get a taste of Maine air. I am a horseback riding instructor. Many of these girls are touching a horse for the first time. Volunteering is about giving experiences and giving back to people. I donate my time in hopes this will make at least one person’s day better.

In the future, what do you see yourself doing to make the world a better place? As I mentioned before, I hope to become a doctor. Helping people has always been my passion. With the pandemic, healthcare workers are in such a high demand. I can’t see myself doing anything else.
