David J. Miles, 74
AUBURN — Master Sergeant David J. Miles, U.S. Army Reserves (Ret), of Norway, was called home on April 21, 2021, at the Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn.
He was born in Bridgton, November 10, 1946, the son of Archibald C. and Clair E. (Barker) Miles. David graduated
from Bridgton Academy and later attended the University of Maine graduating with an associates degree in Criminal Justice. He had an extensive law enforcement career serving as a patrolman in Jay, sergeant with the Androscoggin Sheriff’s Department, and as the chief of police in Mechanic Falls, Hillsboro, N.H. and Fryeburg, and later he worked security at Mercy Hospital until his retirement.
David served four years in the U.S. Air Force as a medic and after a five-year hiatus joined the U.S. Army Reserves Military Police Instructor Corp. and Infantry and retired after 20 years of combined service. He was a member of the American Legion for 39 years and a member of the Bridgton Advent Christian Church.
David was a private man and was content with a quiet life with his loving wife, children and loyal canine companion Molly. He was an eBay enthusiast, master of dry humor and lifelong Bruins fan. He was generous and supported many charities involving veterans, children and pets. He will be greatly missed by those who knew him best.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Miles; a daughter, Julie Benoit; a son, Aarin Miles and wife Kate; a stepdaughter, Ashlee Chaine and husband Matt; a stepson, Christopher Purinton and a grandson, Ryan Benoit; granddaughters, Emily and Olivia Chaine; two sisters, Natalie McAllister and Lucille Mayo; as well as several nieces and nephews.
David was predeceased by his brothers, Douglas and Donald Miles; a sister, Faye Miles; a granddaughter, Tamara Benoit
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, June 15 at the Veterans Cemetery in Augusta.
