What is your favorite class and why? My favorite class right now is Calculus because I find math challenging but extremely rewarding once I understand the concepts! Last semester, I really enjoyed my dual enrollment Introduction to International Relations class through the University of Maine because I got to learn the basics of international politics and economics.
What is your toughest class and why? My hardest class will probably be my Calculus class because while I really enjoy math, many of the concepts can be difficult to understand at first. Last semester, my toughest class was my AP European History class because we had a 900-page textbook to read in about four months!
How do you balance your class work and your extracurricular activities? I use an agenda to plan out my days, from doing school work to attending online club meetings. I also try to keep a consistent schedule and account for “me” time during the day.
What is the biggest challenge high school students face today? I think the most challenging aspect of going to high school on a hybrid learning schedule is being self-motivated on the days that students aren’t in the building. I also think that because students aren’t able to receive one-on-one help from teachers, it is more difficult for them to understand topics, which can lead to frustration and a lack of engagement with their classes.
Who has inspired you educationally, and why? My siblings have inspired me the most because I’ve grown up listening to them talk about their college experiences, and we often have lengthy conversations about academic concepts like political theory or literature. From those conversations, I have been inspired to embark on my own academic journey.
