FA senior snaps winning photograph

Senior photographer Julian Zhu has captured many memorable moments during his time at Fryeburg Academy.

His snapshot of graduation 2020 during a pandemic (see here) received the 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Gold Key, presented by the Maine College of Art.
“This is a remarkable achievement for you. Your work was recognized by a panel of creative professionals as the most outstanding work submitted among your peers,” wrote Pamela Moulton of Maine College of Art. “Since 1923, the Awards have recognized some of America’s most celebrated artists and writers while they were teenagers, including: Tschabalala Self, Stephen King, Kay WalkingStick, Charles White, Joyce Carol Oates and Andy Warhol. We are proud to count you among these esteemed Scholastic Awards alumni!”
Gold Key works automatically advance to the national competion in New York City. National Medalists will be announced on Wednesday, March 17.
Previously, Julian earned honorable mention status. A resident of Beijing, China, Julian has been accepted to attend Boston University for the College of General Studies. Julian's photography is regularly featured in The News.
