CASCO — Mel “Papa” Cottle Jr., 54, passed away on Friday, Aug. 28, 2020, doing what he loved.
He was born in Portland on Aug. 2, 1966, the son of Melvin F. Sr. and Nellie (Gardner) Cottle. Mel was a confident man, never afraid to share his opinion about things and was known to be a little stubborn at times. He also had a great sense of humor that was well known within his circle of family and friends. He will be remembered for his love of deer hunting in the fall and tinkering on vehicles. He was a well-known racecar driver at Beech Ridge in Scarborough. A very patriotic man, Mel served his country in the U.S. Army.
The most important thing in Mel’s life was his family. He was a devoted family man and was especially proud to be “Papa” to his grandbabies.
In addition to his wife, Tammy Cottle, Mel is survived by his daughter, Nicole Marie Libby; son, Joshua Cottle; four grandchildren; sister, Denise Cottle.
Mel was predeceased by his sister, Christine State.
A celebration of life was held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, at the family home, 29 Terrace Lane, Casco, ME 04015.
