NOKOMIS, FLA. — Laura “Lolly” Musgrave Bury, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020.
Born Laura May Vernon in Reading, Penn., on Nov. 25th, 1927, Lolly was the youngest of six siblings. A lover of music and theater, she attended Stephens College, where she majored in radio broadcasting, a career that would introduce her to her first husband, William Musgrave. The two lived in Hallandale, Fla., and had four children together. In 1962 their son, James Musgrave, passed away due to a congenital heart condition.
Lolly relocated to Bridgton, Maine, in 1965, where she raised her children. She worked as a baker and Head Start teacher, later earning her nursing degree from Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute. In 1986 she married Roger Bury in Nokomis, Fla. The pair traveled the world together.
Lolly spent her time at home gardening and baking, her lifelong passions. She also sang with the Sweet Adelines and volunteered as a caregiver for Venice, Florida Hospice for 20 years.
Lolly's son, James, and her husbands predeceased her. She is survived by her sons, Theodore Musgrave of Portland, Maine, Timothy Musgrave of Fort Myers, Fla., Michael O’Connor of Portland, Ore., and daughter Lillian “Boo” Cowie of Nokomis, Fla. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Laura Cowie, Reilly Musgrave and Clancy and Ruby O’Connor; and innumerable nieces, nephews and family members and friends who loved her dearly.
Lolly had a wonderful sense of humor, which helped her through the many challenges in her life. She loved unconditionally, with a deep sincerity and kindness, which drew people to her. She had an indomitable spirit and love of adventure, which gave her innumerable opportunities to learn and live fully throughout her life.
She was a woman of faith who believed in that thin thread which ties one to the hereafter and all mankind.
Lolly will be forever remembered as an incredibly-loving and generous mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.
A memorial will be held this summer in Maine.
