Player of the Week: Cierra Grover
Cierra Grover is an extremely coachable athlete, always looking for ways to improve and willing to try different drills when training for the shot put, Lake Region indoor track & field Coach Dana Caron said.
“Cierra is also open to participating in running events, and often assists with setting up and/or putting away equipment after practices,” Coach Caron added. “She sets a great example to newer athletes and helps lead those with lesser track and field experience.”
In recognition of her strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Cierra is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

Q. Why did you choose to compete in indoor track & field? At first, I chose to play to get in shape for lacrosse, but now I do it because I enjoy the challenge of it. There is always room for improvement and the effort you put into it really pays off.
Q. What is the most difficult part? Practicing for a meet is probably the hardest part of track. We only get to practice throwing the shot put about two to three times a week, so it’s hard to prepare for an event.
Q. What do you enjoy the most about the sport? I enjoy the workout time we get when we don’t have gym time. Doing it with my teammates motivates me to do my best.
Q. What do you feel you need to work on and why? I need to work on persevering through my throws because I tend to get very upset with myself if I don’t do as well as I wanted.
Q. Why is teamwork important? Teamwork is important because it motivates people to try harder and keep improving.
Q. What is the biggest impact your coach(es) have had on you? My coaches push me to want to improve constantly and also try other events at meets. They help me keep a positive attitude when I’m feeling down.
Q. How do you want people to view you as an athlete? I want people to view me as the athlete that always strives to be better. I also want to be seen as always positive and wanting to improve.
Q. Ten years from now, when you look back on your high school sports career, what do you think you will remember most? I’ll remember the potluck (supper) we have at the end of the season. It’s a great time to look back at the hard work put into the season. We also have a unique thing that we do — we say something positive about someone on the team and then that person also says something about another person.
