Players of the Week: Brooke Chase & Ethan McMurray

Ethan McMurray & Brooke Chase
Senior quarterback Ethan McMurray is the heart and soul of the Lake Region football team, Coach Mike Shea says.
“He is the leader by example and what it means to be a Laker!” Coach Shea said. “Ethan has led us on offense with rush yards and passing yards, and on defense with tackles! He looks to get better every day and pushes his teammates in a positive way every practice!”
In recognition of his strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Ethan is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed t-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

Q. Why did you choose to play football? Football has been around me for a lot of my life. I knew the first time I strapped up, it was true love.
Q. What is the most difficult part of the game? Probably keeping my guys motivated. I try my best to be a good leader and not let the team sweat on the little stuff.
Q. What do you enjoy the most about football? Everything. I have had the opportunity to play every position and there is no game like this in the world.
Q. What do you feel you need to work on and why? My body language definitely can improve as a quarterback. I’ve got to be a leader so I can’t ever hang my head.
Q. Why is teamwork important? To win games, all 11 players need to do their job. Look at the Patriots.
Q. What is the biggest impact your coach(es) have had on you? My coaches expect a lot from me, which has helped me step up and be the player I always wanted to be.
Q. How do you want people to view you as an athlete? I want to be seen as a hardworking leader, who never gave up whether we were up 30 [points] or down by 30.
Q. Ten years from now, when you look back on your high school sports career, what do you think you will remember most? Just leaving it all out on the field, knowing I gave it my all with my brothers right next to me.

Senior Brooke Chase has been more than willing to teach new cheerleaders the sideline cheers and dance for this cheer season, something that hasn’t gone unnoticed by Lake Region Coach Brittany Perreault.

“Brooke is one of our captains and her teammates definitely look up to her as a leader.” Coach Perreault said. “I am very proud of you, Brooke! Thank you for being so much fun at practice and helping out whatever is needed.”

In recognition of her strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Brooke is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Q. Why did you choose to cheer? I’ve always loved this sport since I was little. This sport just suits my personality and I have fun with it.

Q. What is the most difficult part of cheering? Probably trying your best not to get hurt or break anything.

Q. What do you enjoy the most about cheering? The excitement of the crowd when we perform or when they join in with us.

Q. What do you feel you need to work on and why? Being a better leader for my team so they know they can count on me and come to me whenever.

Q. Why is teamwork important? If one person doesn’t put in the amount of effort in as everyone else, it could damage the team. Being a team means everyone needs to be a team, not just one person.

Q. What is the biggest impact your coach(es) have had on you? To always have confidence in everything you do; never second-guess yourself. If you do something wrong, excel at it and make it the best wrong decision.

Q. How do you want people to view you as an athlete? A leader, strong, competitive and good attitude. A good attitude the most because that’s the most important part as an athlete, always keeping your head high.

Q. Ten years from now, when you look back on your high school sports career, what do you think you will remember most? Probably working our butts off at choreograph practices and giving it our all on the mats, field and court. Another part I will always remember is cheering our teams on, representing this school and showing our Laker spirit!
