Maynard E. Craig, 88
LOVELL — Maynard Earle Craig, 88, of Lovell, Maine, died peacefully on Friday, June 21, 2019, at home with family at his side. He was born in China, Maine, on June 26, 1930, son of Harold Paine Craig and Edwina Colley Craig.
Maynard graduated from Bridgton High School, class of 1948. He served in the United States Navy.
Maynard married Carolyn Gerry on July 19, 1951, together they raised four children. He worked at Central Maine Power, Gerry’s Lumber, and had several jobs prior to purchasing what would become Craig’s Village Store, which they owned for several years. After selling the store Maynard and Carolyn bought a camper and drove across the country, taking their dream trip to Alaska. He retired from Dielectric.
Maynard was a former member of the Fryeburg Rescue, a member of the Lovell Fire Department, served as a Selectman, served on the Budget Committee and also as a Moderator for the Town of Lovell.
He was a member and past Master of Delta Lodge #153 of Lovell for more than 65 years, a member and past Patron of The Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Kora Temple.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Edwina Craig; his wife Carolyn Craig; and daughters-in-law, Roxanne Craig and Christine Craig.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Carol Carey Craig; his daughter, Anita Barker of Harrison; his sons, Stephen and Gerry, both of Lovell, and Timothy (Nancy) of Fryeburg; his stepdaughter, Corinne Whitaker of Conway, N.H.; his stepson, Robert Thomson of Chocorua, N.H.; grandchildren, Lauri (Matthew) McGrath, Carey Jo (Jodi Auger) Craig, Ashley Craig, Kristen (Justin) Reardon and Jonathan Whitaker and Shana Thomson; great-grandchildren, McKenna and Brody McGrath and Brynn Reardon; his sister, Elaine Carrano of Vermont; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Maynard’s life will be held at the Fire Station in Center Lovell, on Saturday, July 13, at 11 a.m. There will be a Masonic Service and a Fireman’s Farewell.
