CONWAY, N.H. — Inez Backman, 95, of Lovell, Maine, passed away at Merriman House in North Conway, N.H., on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, with her daughter by her side.

She was born in Degerfors, Sweden, to Herbert and Frida (Bast) Johansson in 1924. She married Bertil Backman also from Degerfors, Sweden, in 1947. They moved to the United States with their daughter, Gunilla, in 1953. Inez was a homemaker who loved to knit, bake her special Swedish coffee buns (which we all loved), travel and spend time with friends and family.

Inez and Bertil celebrated 51 years of marriage, enjoying most of their time up in New Hampshire or “God’s country” as Bertil liked to call it.

Inez was predeceased by her husband. Bertil; her parents; and her brother, Clifford.

She leaves behind her daughter, Gunilla of Lovell; a granddaughter, a grandson; and five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Gerd and Yvonne and their families in Sweden. We will always carry your memory in our hearts.
