Mark Mayo

Mark Mayo is an anchor of the Lake Region varsity baseball team.

“Mark is a hard worker, dedicated to improving every time he steps on a playing surface. I’ve really enjoyed the opportunity to coach this young man,” LR head coach Andrew Stacy said.

In recognition of his hard work, dedication and commitment to his team, Mark has been selected by the Lake Region Athletic Boosters as the Hancock Lumber Player of the Week.

Athletes selected for this honor receive a specially-designed t-shirt donated by Hancock Lumber.

Why did you choose to play baseball? I chose to play baseball at a very young age. I wanted to be just like my older brother at the time and played baseball. I really enjoyed it and stuck with it ever since.

What is the most difficult part of the game? The most difficult part is knowing that you will fail almost 70% of the time at the plate.

What do you enjoy the most about the sport? I enjoy making a good play in the field or having a good hit.

What do you feel you need to work on and why? I need to work on covering more ground as a fielder.

Why is teamwork important? Teamwork is important because one player can only get a team so far. Without the help of your teammates, you have to do it all on your own, but with the help of teammates, it can make your job a whole lot easier.

What is the biggest impact your coach(es) have had on you? My coaches have helped me improve my game and have taught me that good character and the way you carry yourself leaves a lasting impression in everyone’s minds.

How do you want people to view you as an athlete? I want people to view me as an athlete that plays the game the right way and takes pride in his team and community.

Ten years from now, when you look back on your high school sports career, what do you think you will remember most? When I look back at my high school sports career, I will remember my teammates, all of the memories we made and the hard-fought battles and games we played.
