Rosemary J. Townsend, 94
CASCO — Rosemary J. Townsend, 94, of Meadow Road, died peacefully on Sunday, April 1, 2018, following a brief illness.
She was born in Portland, on Aug. 12, 1923, the daughter of the late Patrick and Elizabeth (Ganley) Lally. Rosemary attended school at St. Dominic’s and Portland High School. She also attended cosmetology school.
Rosemary worked her entire career as beautician at Hines Beauty Shop, and Valrios Beauty Shop.
In her spare time, Rosemary was an avid fan of the New England sports teams, especially the Boston Red Sox, whom she waited for 60 years to win a World Series. She enjoyed listening to oldies music, doing crossword puzzles, and spending time surrounded by her family. Rosemary was a member of the Irish American Club, American Legion, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, YNZ Club, and the Maine Society for the Protection of Animals.
Rosemary was predeceased by her husband, John B. Townsend Jr.; two daughters, Veronica L. Prescott and Joan E. Trimble; one grandson, seven sisters, and three brothers.
She is survived by a son, Kerry P. Townsend of Hollis; a stepson, John B. Townsend III of Massachusetts; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours and a celebration of Rosemary’s life will be held Friday, April 6, 2018, from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Conroy-Tully Walker South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A service will follow at the chapel at 11 a.m. Burial will be at a later date at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta.
