Lauren Jakobs

Lauren Jakobs is an extremely coachable and level-headed student athlete.

“She always looks for advice on how to improve and is a true leader on and off the field,” Lake Region girls’ varsity soccer coach Peter Webb said. “There is never a negative word from her mouth and she always looks to find the positive in any situation. The girls on the team respect her and can trust in her leadership.”

Coach Webb said Lauren’s work ethic during practice is “unparalleled” and when it comes to game time, “she is ready to get the job done.”

“Lauren is one of those players who helps make the players around her better. She works hard in the classroom and is involved in many extracurricular activities,” Coach Webb said. “Lauren is a true pleasure to coach and very deserving of Player of the Week recognition.”

In recognition of her strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Lauren is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.” Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed T-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

Why did you choose to play soccer? I don’t remember how I started playing soccer, all I know is I started playing when I was 5, and I still love it today.

What is the most difficult part of the game? There are many difficult aspects of the game, but the toughest is probably keeping your head in the game — when you’re losing and even when you’re winning.

What do you enjoy the most about soccer? I enjoy being a part of a team and just the ups and downs of every game, every practice, and every situation. My team is the best.

What do you feel you need to work on and why? I feel like I need to work on my shots from a distance and finishing the ball in close.

Why is teamwork important? Teamwork is important because you have to be able to work together and get along to be successful.

What is the biggest impact your coach(es) have had on you? I love all of my coaches. I have a great relationship with each of them. They push me to be a better player, while still making my high school soccer career so much fun.

How do you want people to view you as an athlete? I want people to view me as a selfless player who is also talented. A player who thinks of her team’s success before her own.

Ten years from now, when you look back on your high school sports career, what do you think you will remember most? I don’t think I will necessarily remember the wins and losses, but the experiences and memories I make with my teammates and coaches.
