Raiders 29, Wells 27: When the Warriors started the final quarter with a 3-point play to take a 27-18 lead at home, Fryeburg Academy Coach Sean Watson knew his team had to turn the game around with its defense.

The Raiders pitched a shutout the rest of the way.

FA held Wells scoreless for the remainder of the fourth quarter — 4 minutes and 40 seconds — and scratched their way back as Ali Fraize got one of her seven steals (six in the second half) and Sage Boivin connected on a pair of foul shots as the result of a drive to the hoop, giving the Raiders their first and only lead.

It stood up as FA squeezed out a 29-27 road win to improve to 13-2.

“Wow. What a rock fight! We got down early. It was a 9 to 1 Wells lead early. It was a defensive battle all the way through three quarters. We kept taking punch after punch, but the girls refused to be knocked out. We never had a sniff of the lead through three quarters,” Coach Watson said. “Wells took away everything we wanted to do on both the offensive and defensive end.”

Fryeburg (13-2) started its comeback when Julia Quinn dropped a deep three in the corner off an assist from Lexi L’Heureux-Carland to make it 27-21 with 7:20 left.

Wells turned it over on their next possession and L’Heureux-Carland scored on the inside off an assist from Ali Fraize to make it 27-23.

Wells missed at the other end, and Quinn was fouled going to the rim. She made both free throws to make it 27-25 Wells with six minutes left.

Wells turned the ball over off a Mackenzie Buzzell deflection. At the other end, L’Heureux-Carland grabbed her own offensive rebound and put it back in to tie it at 27.

Boivin’s two foul shots proved to be the game winner as the Raider defense shut the Warriors (7-7) down over the final four minutes.

Quinn led all scorers with 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while L’Heureux-Carland added 7, McKenna Gerchman had 4, Nicole Bennett 3, Sage Boivin 2 and Mackenzie Buzzell scored 2 points.

No Warrior reached double digits.

• At Falmouth last week, the Raiders rallied from a 10-7 first quarter deficit with a 13-4 run in the second en route to a 37-27 victory against the Yachtsmen (5-8).

Julia Quinn was the game’s high scorer with 16, including a pair of 3-pointers, one coming at the halftime buzzer. Lexi L’Heureux-Carland scored 7, MacKenzie Buzzell 4, Mckenna Gerchman 4, Katherine Parker 2, Sage Boivin 2 and Kaylin Delaney had 2 points.

Up next: Three games remain in the regular season — home this Friday against Lake Region at 6:30 p.m., home against York on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., and at Cape Elizabeth next Thursday, Feb. 4, at 6:30 p.m.

MELODY MILLETT has been on of Lake Region's top rebounders this season. She hauled down 10 boards in Tuesday's win over Kennebunk.

Lakers 48, Waynflete 22: Road teams like to start strong and finish fast. Lake Region accomplished both goals last week, jumping out to a 20-4 lead over Waynflete and finishing the Flyers (5-8) off with a 13-2 fourth quarter for a dominating victory.

Kristen Huntress paced the LR offense with 19 points, including three 3-pointers. Chandler True and Lauren Jakobs each added 10 points, with True netting a pair of treys.

Other scorers were: Melody Millett 4, Spencer True 3 and Brooke Harriman 2.

Lakers 63, Sacopee Valley 20: The Lakers scored 42 points in the first half led by Kristen Huntress’ 19 as they zipped the Hawks (5-8) at home Saturday.

For the Lakers, Chandler True connected for 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Spencer True added 8, Kaitlyn Terry 6, Melody Millett 4, Lauren Jakobs 4, Brooke Harriman 3, Aisley Sturk 2, Rachel Shanks 2, Melissa Bonefant 2 and Kaylin Jordan 2.

Lakers 53, Kennebunk 42: The Lakers won all four quarters and slowly pulled away from the Rams Tuesday night at home behind Kristen Huntress’ game-high 20 points. Junior Melody Millett had a big game, hauling down 10 rebounds while contributing 8 points. LR has had a fine game from sophomore guard Chandler True who netted 12 points. Other scorers were Lauren Jakobs with 8 points, Spencer True 3 and Kaylin Jordan 2.

LR out scored Kennebunk (7-8) 10-6, 14-13, 14-11 and 15-12.

Up next: The Lakers (12-3) travel to Fryeburg Academy Friday for a 6:30 p.m. game, host Yarmouth on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., and close out the regular season at Freeport next Thursday, Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m.

Lakers 82, Sacopee Valley 40: The Lakers high-flying offense scored 46 first half points and cruised past the Hawks in South Hiram Saturday.

Jack Lesure scored a game-high 22 points as 11 Lakers scored. Nate Smith netted 13, Ryan Hodgdon added 11, Tyler Walker 8, Marcus DeVoe 8, Brandon Palmer 8, True Meyers 3, Nick Wandishin 3, Tristen Chaine 2, Douglas Mayo 2 and Alex Langadas had 2.

Lakers 77, Kennebunk 71: Marcus DeVoe fired in 20 points while Nate Smith and Jack Lesure each had 18 points as the Lakers downed the Rams at Kennebunk Tuesday night. The Lakers built a 17-point lead headed into the final quarter, but had some rough sailing down the stretch as the Rams rallied with a 29-18 run.

Nick Wandishin tossed in 6 points, while Brandon Palmer added 5, Alex Langadas had 5, Tyler Walker 4 and Ryan Hodgdon 2.

Up next: The Lakers (13-2) host Fryeburg Academy this Saturday at 6 p.m., host Yarmouth on Tuesday at 7 p.m., and travel to Freeport next Thursday, Feb. 4, for a 7 p.m. game.

Falmouth 66, Raiders 50: Falmouth broke open a 16-9 game with a 20-5 second quarter run to beat Fryeburg Academy at Wadsworth Arena Friday night.

Oscar Saunders led the FA attack with 10 points, while Jace McKenney chipped in 9, Ben Darling had 8, Oscar Herras 7, Ryan Hewes 6, Cody Gullikson 5, Nicholis L’Heureux-Carland 2, Isaac Wakefield 2 and Scott Parker 1.

Wells 56, Raiders 48: The Raiders got off to a good start Tuesday night at home, opening up a 16-9 lead. But, Wells won the final three quarters including a 15-8 run to close out the game as the Warriors evened their record at 7-7.

Fryeburg (5-10) was led by the Oscars — Herras 13 points and Saunders 12 points. Other scorers were: Cody Gullikson 9, Isaac Wakefield 6, Ben Darling 4, Nicholis L’Heureux-Carland 4.

Up next: The Raiders close out the regular season at Lake Region this Saturday at 6 p.m., at York on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., and home next Thursday against Cape Elizabeth at 7 p.m.
