Player of the Week: Marcus DeVoe
Marcus DeVoe is a game changer.
In the fall, he made big catches for touchdowns and hauled in interceptions to lead the Lake Region secondary.
This winter, Marcus has had a big hand in the Lakers’ 7-2 start in Class B South basketball, either knocking down 3-pointers, soaring to the rim or locking down an opposing player on the defensive end of the court.
“Marcus is an explosive three-sport athlete, whether it is on the football field intercepting a pass, making a drive to the basket in basketball, sprinting down the track or jumping over the high bar,†Lake Region varsity boys’ basketball coach John Mayo said. “At any time, he can change a game, whether it is making a steal, a drive to the basket or hitting a 3-pointer. He has a passion and determination to win; he sets the pace for our team.â€
Earlier this year, Coach Mayo challenged Marcus to guard the other team’s best scorer.
“When he came out for a break, he said, ‘he didn’t score on me.’ In the Falmouth game, he guarded one of the best players in the state and had six steals, and two big 3-pointers in our comeback win,†Coach Mayo said.
In recognition of his strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Marcus is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.†Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed T-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.
