Eleanor C. Wood, 97
EAST BALDWIN — Eleanor C. Wood, 97, of East Baldwin, died on Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at her daughter’s home in Exeter, N.H., after a brief illness.
She was born in Sebago on Feb. 4, 1918, the daughter of Fred and Emily (Douglas) Robinson. Educated in Sebago schools, she was a 1937 graduate of Potter Academy in Sebago. She married Harrison Wood on Nov. 24, 1938.
Eleanor worked as a postal clerk at the East Baldwin Post Office for many years. Prior to working at the post office, she had been a waitress and cook at the Rockcraft Lodge in East Sebago, and also worked at Wild Acres Turkey Farm in Steep Falls. She was a longtime member of the East Baldwin Congregational Church, the Couples Club, and Ladies Circle of the church. She also taught Sunday School and was very active working on church suppers. She enjoyed square dancing, cooking, gardening and doing jigsaw puzzles.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harrison Wood, as well as two brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are a daughter, Janice Nickerson of Exeter, N.H.; a son, Paul Wood of Raymond; three grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Visiting hours were held on Saturday, Dec. 19, at the Watson, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple Street, Cornish. A funeral was held on Sunday, Dec. 20, at the East Baldwin Congregational Church on School Street in East Baldwin. Pastor Natalie Blake officiated.
