“A lackluster first half performance put us down at the half 2-1,†Laker Coach Pete Webb said. “The second half was a different story as we displayed good ball movement thus creating many scoring chances and notching five second half goals for the victory.â€
The Lakers were blanked 4-0 at Greely Tuesday.

BOYS’ SOCCER
Fryeburg 5, Lakers 3: Lake Region varsity coach Michael Chaine believes, “Success can’t always be measured in wins.â€
Saturday night was a perfect example. The Lakers hosted rival Fryeburg Academy while celebrating their Senior Night. With nine graduating players this year, Senior Night meant a lot to this team.
“We started the game out flat and similar to how we have played this season, making our share of mental mistakes giving up five goals in the first half,†Coach Chaine said.
But the Lakers refused to give up and stayed positive.
“At halftime, we discussed what we were making for mistakes and what we were doing well. I challenged the boys to eliminate the mistakes and to press on,†Coach Chaine said. “The second half was the best they have played all season.â€
The Lakers came out full of energy. Seniors Mason Laplante and Taylor Davis, as well as juniors Zeke Tocci and Douglass Mayo came alive as a defensive force and challenged every offensive attack the Raiders threw at them. The Lakers midfield and offense lead by senior Alex Langadas poured it on, pressuring the Fryeburg keeper. Senior Nate Symonds got the Lakers on the board as he connected on a loose ball across the goal.
The Lakers weren’t done there. Soon after, senior Connor Andrews split the defense and made a great pass to sophomore Hunter Russo, who was able to find the back of the Raiders’ goal making it 5-2. The Raiders immediately were forced to return all their starters in an attempt to put the game away, but the Lakers weren’t phased.
“We continued to attack on offense and our defense held strong,†Coach Chaine said.
Late in the game, Tocci sent Langadas on a through pass and Langadas finished strong making the score 5-3.
“Time was the only thing we were unable to control in the second half and unfortunately we ran out of it,†the coach said.
- The Laker JV squad continued to ride the positive wave from their first win of the season against Poland last week and they came out fired up. The Lakers took the lead early on by a goal from sophomore Ethan Chadwick and then another from sophomore Hunter Russo. The JV defense played strong, faulting only a few times allowing the Raiders to get one of the goals back, but the defense corrected itself and finished strong for a 2-1 Laker victory.
Heal Ratings: At 0-12, the Lakers are ranked 16th in Class B South. The Lakers travel to Sacopee Valley (5-6) tonight, Oct. 15 for a 6 p.m. game against the Hawks. The Lakers close out the regular season Tuesday, Oct. 20 at Wells (5-5-1) at 4 p.m.
VOLLEYBALL
Windham 3, Lakers 1: Although Windham won the match, the Lakers played aggressively and did pretty well defensively.
“Windham ended up having a couple good outside hitters, who hit pretty hard, as well as a girl who had a pretty tough jump-serve that our back-row struggled with,†Laker Coach Ryan Shible said. “Those two variables, I believe, helped them to take the match.â€
The Lakers did rally to capture the second game 26-24, but we just couldn’t hold onto the momentum. Amanda Botros and Catherine Christiansen did well setting, which allowed Lindsey Keenan, Melissa Bonenfant and Autumn Tremblay to get some good hits.
Christiansen ended up serving 4 aces, along with Melissa Bonenfant, who ended the match with 3 aces. Bonenfant, a middle hitter, also played well against Windham, as she came away with 4 kills in the match.
“Our big focus in our next match against Wells will be on generating and sustaining a consistent offense at the net, with a strong and response defense in the back row,†Coach Shible said.
Match Results:
G1: 25 to 10 Windham
G2: 26 to 24 Lake Region
G3: 25 to 16 Windham
G4: 25 to 16 Windham
Heal Watch: The Lakers (3-10) continue to hold onto the eighth and final tournament spot in Class B.
