SO JUST HOW FAR IS A 22-FEET, 5-INCH JUMP? A permanent white board mark is the starting point of Kate's national championship jump to where the bottom of her sneakers are painted along the sideline of the Casco Gym.

HERO’S WELCOME — In a few weeks, Kate Hall will be turning the page on her track career when she heads to Iowa State University. But before she moves on, her hometown of Casco last Friday honored her accomplishments as a state champion in both indoor and outdoor high school track, as well as national champion in the long jump. Escorted to the Casco Community Center aboard an antique fire truck, Kate received a loud ovation from friends, family and fans, who lined Main Street wearing white t-shirts with Kate’s winning mark of 22-5. She was interviewed by WGME sports anchor Dave Eid as part of a live broadcast. Kate then was ushered inside the town gym, where Holly Hancock read a long list of records and accomplishments, followed by a few remarks from Matt Hancock, who unveiled a white stripe along the basketball floor sideline. 22 feet, 5 inches away were blue shoe prints with Kate’s name, commemorating her historic jump.
