Player of the Week: Kate Hall
Kate Hall is an ambassador of Track & Field for the State of Maine, both by the records she continues to set, as well as overall character.
Kate owns Maine’s all-time records in the 55 meters, 200 meters and long jump indoors, as well as the 100m, 200m and long jump outdoors. She is the only Maine high school girl to long jump over 20 feet. Kate did this most recently at Lake Region’s meet held at Traip Academy in Kittery.
“Many of her opponents are her biggest fans in part due to her kind personality and friendliness,†Lake Region Coaches Mark Snow and Dana Caron said. “She will help any opponent or teammate that could use a hand. Kate is a role model for all in the way she conducts herself on the track and off and how she has humbly handled the amazing success she has had.â€
In recognition of her strong work ethic, determination, commitment and good sportsmanship, Kate is this week’s Boosters and Hancock Lumber “Player of the Week.†Each week, a Lake Region athlete is recognized for his/her dedication (does more than what is asked), work ethic, coachability and academic good standing. Recipients receive a specially-designed T-shirt, sponsored by Hancock Lumber.

Best piece of advice you have received? To take things one day at a time. Don’t be too concerned about the future; set your goals and work to achieve them day to day, and they will happen (from my dad).
Who is your biggest fan? My family, friends, teammates and competitors. They are always there to cheer me on and support me with everything I do.
I know I have had a good sports day when…All of my muscles loosen up well and the weather is just right.
What is your favorite sport? Track is my favorite sport because of how individualized it is. You are competing against yourself and aiming to better your times and distances; winning and losing isn’t the only thing that matters in this sport.
If I could change one thing about myself as an athlete, I would change…I wish as an athlete I had more time to help other kids excel in track.
What qualities make for a good teammate and whom do you consider a good teammate? I think good teammates work their absolute hardest to become the best they can be and also support and cheer on their other teammates unconditionally. Being just freshmen, Danica and Hannah Chadwick are perfect examples of great teammates. In all four years of doing track as a high schooler, I haven’t seen another teammate be as dedicated as they have to becoming the best they can be. Not only that, but they are supportive of everyone on the team and great people in general.
What do you believe you bring to your team? My hope is that I bring my team support, encouragement, help and inspiration.
What characteristics do you feel make for a good coach? I believe a good coach is always searching for new ways to help everyone improve on their team and treats their athletes individually and not necessarily as a whole. Most importantly, a good coach supports and encourages their athletes no matter what happens.
