Carolyn A.B. Lynch

WINDHAM — Carolyn Anne Bailey Lynch, 85, died Nov. 23, 2012 at a Portland health care facility after a brief illness.

Born in Lewiston on March 21, 1927, she was the daughter of Henry L. and Helen L. (Goff) Morgan. She was raised and educated in Portland and graduated from Deering High School, Class of 1945. (Deering won this year!)

She and her first husband, Robert H. Bailey, Sr. owned and operated R.H. Bailey’s convenience store at Duck Pond Corner in Westbrook for 10 years. He predeceased her in 1986.

In 1990, Carolyn married Stanley W. Lynch. He predeceased her in 2010.

She was a life member of the Maine Genealogical Society and the Greater Portland Chapter. She was a member of the Maine Historical Society, the New England Historical & Genealogical Society, the Maine Old Cemetery Association, the Windham Historical Society, the New Hampshire Genealogical Society, the Highland Lake Congregational Church, where she was the treasurer for several years, the Highland Lake Grange, of which she was chaplain for several years, the Cumberland County Pomona Grange, and the State Grange. She was a past president of the Windham Health Council, a past member of the Woman’s Woodford’s Club, also a past member of the Westbrook Extension, “The Country Cousin’s Bowling League” and she volunteered at the Maine Medical Center.

Her favorite pastimes included genealogy research, reading and the computer.

Besides traveling across the United States, she had visited Israel, Egypt, Spain, Morocco, England, Scotland, Wales, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Carolyn and her husband Stan wintered in St. Petersburg, Fla. for approximately 10 years.

She was predeceased by a sister, Louise Day.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Lunt of Raymond and Ruby Peterson of Lewiston; two sons, Robert Bailey Jr. of North Yarmouth and Alexander Bailey of Hubbard, Ore.; a step-son, David Lynch of Sabattus; a step-daughter, Kathryn Grady of North Waterboro; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several step great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours were held on Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at the Dolby Funeral Chapel, 434 River Road. A funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at the chapel. Burial followed at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress Street, Portland. Online condolences may be made to www.dolbyfuneralchapels.com
